The purpose of this training is to equip the Medical Officers with appropriate knowledge
and skills to handle basic and comprehensive obstetric care, respectively. The
Medical Officers are trained to become proficient in providing quality antenatal care, intra-partum
care, including monitoring of labor with partograph, active management of third
stage of labor and postpartum care and manage common obstetric problems such as
anaemia, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy including eclampsia, haemorrhage, abortion,
puerperal sepsis, prolonged labor, preterm labor, foetal distress, prolapsed cord,
twins etc. and stabilize women before and during referral to the appropriate health
facility. They are equipped enough to handle the common obstetric emergencies and
provide the requisite care such as administration of parenteral oxytocics, antibiotics
and anti-convulsant drugs, manual removal of placenta, the conduct assisted
vaginal deliveries etc. In Haryana this training is integrated with PPIUCD training.
