The actual operation of First Referral Units (FRUs) was suffering due to lack of
specialist/trained manpower all over the state. Thus, Government started the training
programme for Medical Officers to provide comprehensive emergency obstetric care in Life Saving
Anesthesia Skills (LSAS) for handling the life threatening complications during pregnancy.
In the 18 weeks training programme, Medical Officers are first sent to tertiary center
for 6 weeks, then to District Hospital for 12 weeks. They have to maintain the record
of cases handled (log books) and all the reports on quarterly basis which are regularly
reviewed by the higher officials.
